This course is designed for students who have prior knowledge of the Income Tax Act. It's purpose is to enable delegates to apply and extend this embedded knowedge to successfully demonstrate acceptable performance in all the competencies as defined below.


After attending the course, delegates will have gained a basic understanding of the competencies mentioned below and must be able to apply the concepts and techniques in simple, uncomplicated situations or environments: 
  • Preparing individual tax returns in terms of SARS requirements,specifically being able to use eFiling to complete their own or clients’tax returns 
  • Trainees would need to be aware of items such as fringe benefits e.g. 
o Low-interest loans 
o Cheap housing 
o Free goods or low prices o Motor vehicles / meals / household expenses / subsidised travel arrangements 


Collects and calculates the information needed to file the tax return for an individual,considering: 
  • Inclusion and classification of income from different sources (e.g. employment including fringe benefits and lump sum benefits, property, business, capital gain / loss and other income) 
  • Exclusion of exempt income 
  • Deductibility of expenses (e.g. contributions to pension or retirement funds, income protection policies, assets used for trade purposes, legal fees and study at home) TX(R)1.1. 
  • Prepares the income tax return TX(R)1.2.


Trainee accountants (SAICA and SAIPA), bookkeepers and junior accountants. 


Delegates must bring pens and calculators to the course. All other material and stationery will be provided.

Lynette Badenhorst began her studies in 1985 with a BCompt and Honours BCompt from the University of the Free State. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1993 and started her own audit practice. In 1997 Lynette joined a training firm called PROS Training and was the Training Manager until it merged with BETA Training in 2003. She was a Director and shareholder of ProBeta Accountancy Development (Pty) Ltd since 2003. 

Lynette obtained:  
• 2005: An advanced Certificate in Tax
•2006: Masters Degree in Domestic Tax
•2007: Certificate in Forensic and Investigative Auditing 
•2009: Masters Degree in International Tax. 

Lynette is currently the Managing Director and a shareholder of ProBeta Training (Pty) Ltd. 

She is also the author of the annual tax booklets sold by GBSE & ProBeta.
